Badges
There are two Clan badges - the crest badge and the plant badge
Crest Badge:
A clan crest badge, sometimes called a plant badge, is an emblem, usually a sprig of a specific plant, that is used to identify a member of a specific Scottish clan. They are usually worn in a bonnet behind the Scottish crest badge or attached to the shoulder of a lady's tartan sash. According to popular folklore clan badges were used as identification in battle.
Crest Badge: A cat-a-mountain salient guardant Proper.
Motto: Touch not the cat bot a glove (Touch not the cat without a glove). 'Bot' may mean "without" or "ungloved," either being a warning to those who would harm the clan.
Gaelic Name: Mac an Toisich.
Plant Badge:
The Red Whortleberry is the modern plant badge of Clan Mackintosh. Lus nam braoileag in Scots Galic. It is a short evergreen shrub in the heath family that bears edible fruit.
